Heart of Darkness Kurtz's Intended
by
Joseph Conrad
"Intended" means that Kurtz planned to marry this women, who feels she knows Kurtz better than anyone can, and that he was a person of complete benevolence. Marlow lies to her about Kurtz's final words (telling her they were her name, as opposed to his true last words, "The horror! The horror!") to avoid inflicting the darkness upon her and shattering her world of grand ideas.
